Can you tell the readers a little bit about yourself, name, what country you live in, age etc? Hello, I’m Wishcandy, or Sashiko Yuen (whichever you prefer to call me by). Twenty-two years old and living on the east coast of the USA. I just graduated from university studying illustration and painting in Spring 2010. I spend my free time drinking tea, reading and smelling books.

-What inspired you to start being creative? I’ve been drawing since I could hold a pencil, and never stopped. I got really serious about art during highschool once I realized art could be pursued as a profession. That and making a piece of art is really fun. It sure beats going to parties and getting trashed like a lot of my peers were doing.

-Is making art your fulltime job, and if not, what else do you do?
Art is currently the only thing I do, besides dreaming (and sometimes writing) up stories.

-Have you gone to art school, if yes where did you go and what did you study?
Towson University is where I went to study art. I wouldn’t define it as art school, but it taught me a lot about discipline. And as in many art programs I did a lot of self-teaching and experimenting.

-Where do you find inspiration?
I get a lot of my ideas from my subconscious. The best ones I have are as I fall asleep or while I’m dreaming. Otherwise I like looking at interior decoration blogs, graphic design, fashion, vintage pornography, and food photography. Oh and I love to read folk tales and fairy tales. I’m both equally obsessed by the grotesque, as I am the sweet. It’s a lot of fun juxtaposing the two.
-Do you have a favorite artist and if so who and why? I don’t have one favorite artist. There are too many great artists to favor one over another. You can’t compare one "style" to another. Out of the artists not living, I’ve admired and learned from Gustav Klimt, Goya, Hopper, Henry Fuseli, Diane Arbus, Frida Kahlo. Also "The Fisherman’s Wife," by Hokusai. Out of the living, I love Audrey Kawasaki, Andrew Hem, Heiko Muller, Stella Im Hultberg, Moki, Miss Van, Lola, Lori Earley, Aya Takano, Yoshitomo Nara, and too many to even mention.
