Culture? introducing Ruth Shively..

RUTH SHIVELY
..Today culture? is featuring the highly talented Ruth Shively. Ruth`s work is so well put together, the colours are fantastic and the energy amazes me time after time. Allthough Ruth has a rather classical line, her work always seems up to date. Ruth is telling us a little bit about herself and her thoughts around her art today..
..Here it is, your shot of art with Ruth Shively:

- Ruth Shively. I live in the Pacific Northwest in the city of Portland, Oregon, USA.

I grew up in the state of Nebraska, which is almost exactly in the center of the United States, the "Great Plains".I did not grow up on a farm but in a small town, surrounded by fields of corn and cattle.

-I'm not sure where my initial creativity came from, I only remember that art was a great escape for me and was always drawn to creativity.

-I went to the University of Nebraska and studied fine art with an emphasis in drawing and illustration. I feel life has been a huge influence as far as education. After attending university, I traveled through Europe and lived in Paris for a year, soon after returning to the United States, I moved to New York City to work for an established illustrator.

-I have found much of my inspiration from visiting so many museums, when living in upstate NY, I had the opportunity to visit some of the best museums in the world. I look at many books of my favorite painters as well as contemporary artists I've found through the internet.

-It's hard for me to name one specific favorite painter, there are so many that I admire, but a few of my favorites would be Schiele, Freud, Whistler, Welliver.

-You can see my work at Ruthshively.com or on Facebook, RuthShivelyFineArt.
